At Home is a series of photographs which I created for my Final Major Project during my MA, depicting the fictional life of Betty, a housewife living The American Dream. All images were styled by myself, using the 50s nas my inspiration. The series pulls on our heartstrings, playing on themes of nostalgia and longing for a bygone era. Inspired by Christina Rossetti’s 1858 poem of the same name, the images depict Betty’s life of apparent domestic bliss. We see her life through rose-tinted glasses, but when we look deeper, the cracks start to appear. Is the perfect life Betty wanted all that it seems, and was society's perfect housewife ideal really something to aspire to?
