Roxy Owen is a photographer and graduate of London College of Communication holding an MA in Commercial Photography. She is drawn to vintage advertising from the 1950s, the housewife aesthetic of the era, and the kitsch movement, where she finds the inspiration to produce bold, high-contrast and colourful imagery. Inspiration also comes from historical artists and artworks, including early photographers, painters and art movements. Her work is predominantly still life-based, but she loves incorporating people and animals into her imagery.
Before beginning her MA journey, she spent two years as a product photographer and production coordinator in her hometown. While there, she learnt communication and admin skills, whilst improving her photographic and post-production knowledge working for brands such as Oxfam, Oxford University and Maxipos Luxury Packaging. Working for these companies taught her a range of skills as she produced imagery which ranged from simple packshot photography to advertising campaigns.
She completed a bachelor's degree in Commercial Photography from Arts University Plymouth between 2018 and 2021, and in her final year, she was a finalist in the Association of Photographers Student Awards. Her work has been shown in Devon, Oxfordshire and London exhibitions, where she displays my bright and colourful still-life images.
Since finishing her MA, she has begun working professionally in London. She is continuing to explore themes of photopoetry, feminism and nostalgia in her personal work by creating visuals that go alongside words, drawing inspiration from poets, past and present.
